SOLID QUALIFYING DAY... BUT BAD LUCK ENDS THE DAY
AT THE PETERBILT 250
That is par for the course this season, ... another
day of improvements but luck strikes again" said Jason. The 8000
plus spectators seen the Irving Oil #55 rookie maintain a solid
practice morning followed by a pace that did not show Jason as a rookie
anymore. The Irving Oil Team wrenched hard all weekend for Sunday's
quaifying races against 45 other competitors."This is the toughest
race to get in to the main show,...and we have to be proud to run in
the top 28 cars in practice considering the level of competition that
is here. Our teammate Travis Benjamin and others like Johnny Clark and
Travis Kittleson are very seasoned and have years of experience.
6/10 of a second separating 44 cars in practice is proof enough
that we are apart of the tightest late model cars in North America. It
also doesn't help when you draw the number 33 out of a hat to place
yourself at the back of a starting grid" said Jason.
We noticed an interruption in the cars ignition
druing one of the Qualifying races. After a close inspection of the
cars electrical system there was no chaffed wires or breaks to be
found. While warming up for the last chance race the car had the same
problem and it all went down hill after the green flag when the car
quit running entirely and Jason was forced to decide to park it in the
infeild to not interfere with the other competitors. "We could
have stayed out on the track surface to bring out the yellow flag but
the consequences to the other drivers could have been a disaster. The
caution flag came out another reason which was a wreck in turn 3-4 and
I thought we would have a chance to get in and take a shot at finding
the problem but it appeared as the speedway clean up crew made it a
priority to get the cars out of the bank first. Then they went green
again and at that point we knew the day was done" said Jason.
Further investigation instantly when the car returned to pit road lead
the team to find a loose internal connection on the MSD connector had
caused the problem. This type of problem was is not easy to find in a
hurry. The connectors are sealed by tech officials and are not to be
tampered with so an full diagnosis is hard when you cannot take it
apart to check it.
The grand finale is at Scotia Speedworld for the
last points race for the Maritime Prostock tour of the season. Another
200 lap session for the Carnahan Motorsports team and they are going
there with an all or nothin' attiude. See you there!
