HAS A GREAT RUN BUT MECHANICAL FAILURE ENDS ANOTHER
PROGESSIVE DAY
“ Just give me a little luck” said
Jason. The Irving Oil Racing #55 team had spent most of the week on set
up and decided to switch to the “Crate Motor” program that
is an option on the tour which most championship front runners have
under the hood. “ we did our home work, serviced everything
thoroughly, and had a good set up but I think that fate only allows me
a ? inch of progress each week” Jason chuckled with a grin. The
#55 team had been behind the eight ball with the stopwatch in practice.
They pulled it together in qualifying imrpoving nearly 4/10 of a second
in the qualifying charts. The crew made more adjustments and was
comfortable for the start of the main feature. Carnahan starting
towards the rear maintained his best laps times and was running with
the lead lap cars and on lap 42 heard a noise in the rear. Carnahan
came down pit road during the caution lap 41 to check for obvious
problems but the crew noticed nothing externally wrong with the Irving
Oil Racing #55 machine. “in short track there is not much you can
do when the problem is internal, and we needed to keep as many laps
logged as possible to maintain points for the rookie chase. Even though
the damage can get extensive if you keep running it is a decision I had
to make because we are not in the position to loose any points”
said Jason. Carnahan went returned under the next green and on lap 51
the rear pinion gear stripped in the rear gearbox and ended the best
run of the season for the Irving Oil Marketing team. Not enough time
allowed Jason and his crew to attempt to completely switch out a rear
center section to get back out in the field. “our performance is
improving a little each week and I cannot wait until we return to the
high banked oval of Riverside Speedway in Antigonish N.S. next
weekend” said Jason with confidence.
